One year after the Kathua rape and murder case which shook India, the special court in Pathankot has convicted six out of the seven accused. Three of the six convicted have been sentenced to life imprisonment while three co-accused were sentenced to five years jail term. The sentencing in the horrific Kathua rape case comes a year after the 8-year old victim's body was found on the outskirts of the Rasana village in Jammu. The girl child from the Rasana village belonged to the nomadic Bakarwal community and the crime was perpetrated to allegedly terrorise the nomadic Bakarwal tribe. The horrific incident made national news and led to numerous protests across India.
