Dan Markley paid $45,000 for his Power Clean Diesel Truckmount. The problem was that the truckmount was out of warranty and it was costing him a lot of money in repairs and downtime. Before the warranty was out, he was still having a lot of downtime, but the repair was covered under warranty. Dan also was using a high-flow wand and the temperature was dropping dramatically with the higher flow. He brought us the truckmount for reeingineering. We stripped the truckmount down to the pump and blower, eliminating all complicated controls. We added a #4 Little Giant Heater to give him sustained temperature. It was very difficult to access the components on Dan's truckmount. After we stripped it, it was very easy to access everything.
We were able to run the engine at 50% rpm. This doubles the life of the engine, uses half the amount of fuel per hour, and drops the noise level by 50%. One issue that Dan was not happy about with his heat exchange truckmount is that he had to preheat the truckmount before every job for about 15 -- 20 minutes. If Dan was doing 4 -- 5 jobs per day, this created an accumulative unnecessary running of the truckmount and wasted time and money of an hour and forty minutes per day. When Dan came to pick up his truckmount we started the unit and immediately pulled the trigger. He commented that he had never seen the temperature increase on his truckmount when he pulled the trigger on the wand. It would always decrease, prior to reengineering.

The reason heat exchange truckmounts have big engines is to provide you with the heat you need to clean carpet. Some people might argue that they want a bigger engine to provide more vacuum. A bigger engine does not mean you have more USEABLE vacuum.
Can a Truckmount Have Too Much Vacuum?
The big engine and big blower on heat exchange truckmounts are there to attempt to achieve heat that is close to the heat performance of a fuel-fired system. A big blower is used to put a bigger load on the engine to obtain BTUs. This large blower causes the truckmount to have too much vacuum which causes the wand to lock down on the carpet so that it cannot be moved. These larger blowers produce CFM up to 800.
A wand once on the carpet and semi-sealed with water can only move about 200 CFM due to the restriction of the carpet. As a result of this excess air and the wand locking down, the glide was developed. The glide has a wider radius lip allowing the wand to move easier but because of the excess CFM, the wand has a narrow slot, about 1/16th of an inch. This produces a CFM choke point in the system that reduces the CFM at the wand so that the wand will not lock down to the carpet. This choke point in the system is reducing the CFM causing 80% of the air to be bypassed through the relief valve. The correct design of a truckmount would be one that does not have too much CFM. Another drawback of the small slot in the glide is that you are not able to remove debris that is on the carpet surface. YES! A truckmount CAN have too much vacuum!
One problem with any heat exchanger is that you are modifying the design of the engine by modifying the exhaust system. This can result in unwarrantable engine damage due to improper exhaust pressures. The Judson TNT truckmounts use a factory engine and factory muffler, running proper exhaust pressures.
For every 500 hours you run a TNT truckmount versus a large engine truckmount, you've saved enough money in fuel to buy a spare engine.
