After the Inertia run a few days ago ( • 5 Inertia units do a 12,500-point Unova Ch... ), it felt right to give the spotlight to Cakewalk next. Unlike its more popular sibling, Cakewalk is a lot harder to pull off since there aren't a lot of good Speed debuffers. It also doesn't help that Speed debuffs are largely useless outside of Cakewalk and Hunter's Instinct (and Power Loving I guess).
While Palerena is the only one so far that can max debuff speed by the first sync, Elio is a much more interesting choice for a speed debuffer as he can also debuff either Def or Sp Def in the process. While these debuffs aren't guaranteed, Elio makes up for it with the rest of his kit that all Cakewalk users appreciate. Sing is also invaluable in keeping the tank healthy and getting extra turns.
You'll also notice that I got more and more parameters for each clear to make the run more interesting. All of them use the omni-debuff special parameter since it goes well with Elio's own debuffs.
Here's how each battle went, and the sync grids used:
Vs. Grimsley: Kukui / Elio / EX Ingo - https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github....
Kukui is quite underrated as a sync nuker, but he has a hard time doing an off-type clear, which is why he got the standard 1.5k run for this video. Ingo activates Sand Blaster 5 for an even stronger sync nuke, and Kukui also got to use Accelerock as DPS rather than as a flinch move in the end haha.
Vs. Marshal: EX Barry / Elio / EX Sabrina - https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github....
Not as fast as a lot of the other Barry runs I've posted recently since it's off-type, and the Strength+6 makes a lot of difference since Bubble Beam isn't strong in the first place. Sabrina completes Barry's buffs and provides Reflect, which was much needed as this turned into a post-sync clear.
Vs. Caitlin: Clemont / Elio / EX Ingo - https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github....
Double Cakewalk time! Despite being on-type though, this was quite difficult to pull off, as Clemont's regular moves aren't that strong. He makes up for it with sure crit though, which definitely reduced the potential number of resets haha. Ingo comes back here as Clemont got Surging Sand 5 on the way to a sync tile, so it was fitting to make him the crit buffer.
Vs. Shauntal: Ghetsis / Elio / EX SS Blue - https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github....
Ghetsis has innate Cakewalk in his sync, which compounds well with Pecking Order in his grid. Glaciate is also very strong, which is why this was easier to pull off than the Clemont clear despite having more points. Elio's Sp. Def buffs also got the spotlight here as this also turned into a post-sync clear, and those buffs worked well with Ghetsis' Sp. Atk debuffs. And SS Blue did SS Blue things haha.
Vs. Iris: EX Wally / Elio / Cobalion - https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github....
Was this video just another excuse for me to feature the best team ever? Perhaps. I did want to get more than 3,000 points since the physical damage up parameter was available, but the extra defense tiles proved to be too much for best boy Wally. So we just get a "typical" 3k run here, though this also used the omni-debuff parameter to make it harder.
