AMERICAN FENDER DELUXE PRECISION BASS V - a sound demo

The bass was recorded via PreSonus Studio 68c card directly into the OBS software without any effects, equalization, compression, normalisation or postprocessing. This is the most clean sound I was able to get directly from the instrument.

Technical details and comments:
According to the serial number DZ2110556 it was manufactured in the USA between 2002-2004. The body is ash. The maple neck has maple fretboard. The bass is well balanced and there is no neck dive. The strings may go through the body.

The pickups and their combinations are really versatile. Adding the neck precision pickup makes the sound fat, adding the brisge humbucker makes the sound bite. The factory electronics was replaced by the previous owner with a JOHN EAST RETRO preamp with the following controls: Stacked Volume and Balance pot, Stacked Bass and Treble pot, Stacked Mids and Mid frequency pot, and a Tone pot. The Tone pot works in both active and passive mode, which is very useful. The J EAST preamp is an older version. THe Tone pot cracles sometimes a bit. There are two switches - one puts the pickups into an equal mix, which is useful especially in the passive mode; the other switches between active/passive mode; in passive, the bridge pickup is soloed and the blend is bypassed, so the first switch needs to be engaged to have a mix of both pickups.

The strings are Elixir Nickel Roundwounds, actually like 2 years old. The bass sings in the whole register, the B-string is well defined. The sound is very full, musical, and well articulated. It binds nicely with guitars as well as with the keyboard. In live gigs, I preferred to use is with a valve bass amp.
