Based on a comment posted on one of my recent videos reviewing NATO style straps with the Apple Watch I have made this follow up video. The comment writer stated that the Apple Watch will remain unlocked as long as it is in constant contact with any surface and not just the wearer's skin.
So in order to try to verify this I have come up with a series of tests.
I this video I first test the watch suspended in the air with nothing covering the case back to demonstrate the relocking feature.
Next I test it strapped to my wrist to demonstrate how it will remain unlocked while being worn.
Third I try it on a black foam watch pillow from a watch storage case.
The fourth test is on a brown leather NATO strap.
The fifth test is with the watch being held down onto the surface of a black table.
The final test is with the Watch on the brown leather NATO strap sitting flat on the table.
Now I do need to note that there is an option in the Apple Watch setting where you can turn off the passcode feature which should prevent the auto lock from engaging. However this obviously reduces the security of the Watch in case of loss or theft.
