Grantley Dee (real name Grantley de Zoete) was an Australian musician and DJ born on January 2nd 1946 visually impaired so he attended several schools for visually impaired and blind students
Dee always wanted to be a radio announcer and he got his big breakthrough as a race caller. After getting some radio announcement training (from John McMahon) he quickly became a popular member of 3AK’s Good Guys On-Air team in 1963. In 1965 he hosted the #grantleydee show and soon expanded his career to singing
Grantley’s first single had his most iconic song “Let The Little Girl Dance” released in 1966 and it peaked at #7 on The Billboard Hot 100 and #11 on The R&B Charts and almost went gold
What followed were 5 more singles an EP and a self titled album. Grantley did continue in radio until 1969. By the 1970s Dee fronted his own band and from 1970-71 was the lead vocalist for Taurus (a Melbourne band that featured one of his guitarist Gil Matthews) but Grantley’s solo career did drop by the rest of the early 1970s and presumably faded from the public eye after 1973
He passed away on February 7th 2005 at the age of 59 of an unknown cause
