Langar wali dal is simple yet very tasty. Langar dal is made with the combination of whole black gram and Bengal gram or split chickpea or chana dal. The urad dal gives a creamy texture to this dal and the more urad dal is cooked; more the flavor it has. This is the reason of this dal to be cooked on low flame for a longer time. Consistency depends on how you want to serve it; with rice or with chapati. Enjoy 😊
Ingredients-
Sabut Urad dal (washed and soaked overnight) – 1.5 cup
Chana Dal (washed and soaked 1hr) -1/2 cup
Bay leaf -1
Cinnamon stick -1small
Haldi powder -1tsp
Salt -as per taste
Coriander powder -1.5tsp
Garam masala powder -1tsp
Red chili powder -1tsp
Ginger-garlic-green chili (crushed)-1tsp
Onion chopped -1large
Tomato chopped -1medium
Dry Red chili -1
Coriander leaves -1tbsp
Jeera -1tsp
Hing -1tsp
Ghee -2tbsp
Method –
1- Add urad dal, chana dal, salt, haldi, bay leaf,red chili powder, cinnamon stick in a pressure cooker with 1 glass of water. Cook for 3-4 whistle’s or till the dal is completely cooked.
2- Once dal is cooked mash it with the spatula to make it bit mashed.
3- Heat ghee and 1tsp oil in a kadhai. Add jeera, hing, dry red chili.
4- Next add the chopped onions and fry till light golden. Add ginger-garlic-chili paste and fry till the raw smell goes.
5- Add chopped tomato and all the dry masala except garam masala powder. Fry till tomatoes are completely cooked and the masala starts leaving oil.
6- Transfer the boiled dal to this masala, add some salt and garam masala powder. Mix and let the dal cook for 15-20 minutes on low flame.
7- Add warm water if dal is too thick. Lastly add the chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
