Doc Watson Trick for Forward Drive

Описание: One of Doc Watson’s greatest strengths was forward drive — that feeling that the music is leaning ahead with energy.
Here’s a simple timing shift he used often, including at the end of "Black Mountain Rag":
Instead of playing two quarter notes across two beats, play the same two notes as eighth notes in beat 1, and use beat 2 for movement — often a ghost strum or a light motion of the hand.
What this creates:
✔ Forward drive
✔ Energy in bass runs
✔ A lively Carter Style feel
✔ A more exciting bluegrass break

Small change — big momentum.
