This video's audio is from my album titled “Here’s To Life”. I hope players out there will use this video as a reference to learn about the Harmony H165 guitar!
This one I rescued from the Salvation Army, and it had been well cared for. It had a neck reset and a well-done crack repair including cleats. The H165 was built from 1944 to 1971, making it one of Harmony’s longest‑running acoustics. I’m not sure the exact year of this one, but all indications are early to mid-1960s.
The H165 was built with all solid woods and is a highly sought-after vintage piece for players who love a warm, "woody" tone. The body, top, back, and sides are solid Mahogany. This gives the guitar a dark, punchy, and warm sound compared to spruce-topped guitars.
The internet says Elvis Presley played one in several 1960s films like Girls! Girls! Girls! and Fun in Acapulco and that its "dry" and focused sound made it a favorite for Delta blues and folk revivalists who didn't want the overwhelming bass of a large Dreadnought.
The perfect guitar to play the blues classic “Hesitation Blues”! See my channel for more guitar specific videos, coming soon. The full album (Here's to Life, Michael Nickolas) is on the usual streaming services.
