Carry an Electric Bike Up Stairs?

Описание: Do you have or are you considering buying an electric assist / E-bike? Will you need to carry it up and down stairs to your apartment, office, at a station or during your rides? In this video I tried carrying a heavy E-bike (23kg about 51 lb) up and down my staircase, with a couple of awkward turns, using the simple DIY accessory I’ve used for the last few years with my regular touring bike.

If you can remove the battery, it can take about 2kg off the overall weight of the bike, worth doing when you're tired or if the weight of the bike is a challenge. This changed the balance of the bike a bit but not as much as I'd expected and in the end I did the whole test with the battery on. By using a plastic “creel hook” (links below) and an adjustable webbing strap (also called “tie-down", "luggage" or "cam straps”), I have an easy and convenient lifting strap that distributes the load of the bike more evenly on my body and allows me to free up a hand for steadying on bannisters/rails, opening doors or carrying bags. It makes controlling the bike easier and helps avoid damaging the walls too.

This hook and strap setup has also come in useful with lifting heavy baggage and I use it a lot with extended carrying or portage for a kayak or canoe. I often use it along with my kayak trolley. OR you can just hitch the strap around the frame, without a hook at all... I'll post a video on this soon.
