Clerk in Murdaugh murder trial pleads guilty to charges, won't face prison time

Описание: CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) - Becky Hill, the former Colleton County Clerk of Court, will not go to prison, Judge Heath Taylor said during her court appearance in Calhoun County Circuit Court on Monday.

Hill pleaded guilty in Calhoun County Circuit Court to four charges, obstruction of justice and perjury. She also pleaded guilty to two counts of misconduct in office.

The charges stemmed from the accusation that she allowed a photo of Murdaugh in a holding cell to be taken to promote her book on the trial, gave herself bonuses, and used county money to buy dozens of lunches for her staff, prosecutors and a vendor. Hill also showed a reporter photographs that were sealed court exhibits and then lied about it.

Hill, who rose to a level of notoriety during the closely-watched Alex Murdaugh double murder trial, was facing a litany of charges, including perjury, obstruction of justice and misconduct.

Hill resigned in March 2024 during the last year of her four-year term, citing the public scrutiny of Murdaugh’s trial and family reasons.
