In this video, I walk through the reasoning behind aggregating Detroit’s 911 crime categories into cleaner, more manageable groups. The goal is to simplify how users explore incident data while still preserving the detail needed for meaningful analysis.
This is part of my ongoing series building an enterprise-level crime analytics application using AWS, Terraform, Lambda, API Gateway, Python, Next.js, and PostgreSQL. Category aggregation is a key step in shaping raw 911 data into a structured, intuitive format that supports better filtering, mapping, and reporting.
In upcoming videos, I will continue refining the data model, expanding the API, and building out the front end as the Detroit 911 analytics platform takes shape.
