On July 19, 2024, residents of Bannu, a city in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, took to the streets to demand an end to rampant terrorism in the region. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been dealing with extremism since the US War on Terror began, and large scale military offensives were launched across the Pakistan-Afghan border. Ever since Afghan Taliban took over Kabul in 2021, extremist groups like the infamous Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan have increased their activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In this video, we look at the events that led up to the Bannu Peace Rally, and the firing incident that took place at the rally, using eye-witness accounts. We also look at how fundamentalist insurgency has risen in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and its impact on the local population.
