After playing a PSL game last night, Multan Sultans will again take on the field at Gaddafi on Monday and this time, their opponents will be the new franchise RawalPindiZ.
Multan Sultans, long regarded as one of the most consistent units in the PSL, will once again rely on their well-rounded core. The side is currently at the top of the table with three wins from four games.
In last night's game, Sultans comfortably defeated Quetta Gladiators by six wickets as the former chased down a target of 167 runs with 15 balls to spare. Bowling first, Sultans' spinners bowled 14 of the total 20 overs. Mohammad Nawaz picked up three wickets while Arafat Minhas took two.
A target of 160-odd was never enough on a flat track and Sultans opening pair, Steve Smith and Shaibzada Farhan, proved it by crossing the 50-run mark inside four overs. The pair accumulated 80-odd runs in the powerplay as Smith brought up his first PSL half-century. Later, the remaining Sultans batters reached the target without any fuss.
RawalpindiZ, meanwhile, come into the contest with a point to prove. The side has so far lost all three of its matches and is currently in the second-last position in the points table.
In their last game against Islamabad United, the side failed to defend its target of 157 runs and lost by seven wickets. The worst part for them was that the United chased down the target with more than five overs to spare. However, RawalPindiZ's batters Kamran Ghulam and Dian Forrester played some good knocks.
The side's star pacer, Naseem Shah, is still struggling with an injury and has yet to recover.
