My friend Pauline and I visited Five Sisters Zoo in West Lothian. It's about 40 minutes drive from Cumbernauld in a good location between Glasgow and Edinburgh.
I have a controversial opinion, but my view is based on Edinburgh Zoo from 10 years ago... I hated my visit to EZ. The 'monkey house' was old fashioned with depressed looking animals getting harrassed by kids banging the glass, and the enclosures for the tapir, rhino etc were tiny. The animals looked so miserable...
Conversly, at FSZ there are still some small-ish enclosures but most of the animals have a great habitat. It is clear the zoo cares about enrichment and education. I am always impressed with the dedication to the rescue animals and keepers seem to always be tending to the animals and ready to answer any questions.
For your money and for a unique experience, I would definitely reccomend FSZ over EZ any day of the week!
