With less than 24 hours before the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) goes to the polls, voters in Kinshasa express their hopes for peaceful elections and positive change. An estimated 44 million registered voters are set to participate in the presidential, parliamentary, provincial, and municipal elections scheduled for December 20.

As the Independent National Electoral Commission deploys voting materials in the city of Goma, eastern DRC, on the eve of the elections, anticipation is palpable. However, concerns loom large as DR Congo's Interior and Security Minister, Peter Kazadi, voices worry about the potential manipulation of election results. Kazadi, in a press conference in Kinshasa, highlighted the use of technology by certain organisations that could infiltrate the electoral commission's electronic system, posing a threat to the integrity of the results.

This concern follows the government's refusal, in late November, to authorise satellite equipment for European Union election observers due to similar fears. As the DRC prepares for a crucial electoral process, the juxtaposition of hope for positive change and concerns over potential manipulation adds complexity to the electoral landscape.
