Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in Kyrgyzstan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek.

Footage shows Pezeshkian disembarking from his aircraft and being greeted by Kyrgyzstan officials following his arrival in the capital.

The SCO summit, taking place from August 31 to September 1, brings together leaders from Iran, Russia, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Belarus, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The high-level gathering is expected to focus on regional security, economic cooperation and the future development of the organisation.

Pezeshkian’s participation highlights Iran’s engagement with the SCO and its member states as the grouping continues to play an increasingly prominent role in regional diplomacy.

SCO leaders have also been invited to attend the opening of the World Nomad Games, taking place in Kyrgyzstan alongside the summit.
