Want to improve your pointe range safely? Try this controlled ankle stretch instead of using a foot stretcher.
Cross one ankle over the other and slowly lower into a plié until you feel a stretch across the top of your foot.
Because you’re in your pointe shoes, your foot isn’t being forced into a device that doesn’t fit your anatomy and you control the amount and direction of the stretch!
Safety tips:
➡️ Keep the ankle in a neutral position — avoid sickling or winging.
➡️ Make sure your ankle stays in line with your knee.
➡️ Never push past a bony “stopping point.” If your heel feels blocked, that’s likely bone-on-bone (a bony end range), and forcing it can cause tissue damage.
➡️ Do not perform barefoot as the pointe shoe helps from overloading the small joints
Lower gradually, feel the stretch through the top of your foot, and hold for 30 seconds, repeating 3x on each side after class.
