Florida Attorney General threatens legal action over Life Time gym's locker room policy

Описание: A popular health club in Palm Beach Gardens is at the center of a controversy, brought to light by Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier. He is threatening legal action against Life Time and said the gym is violating state law by allowing biological men into women’s locker rooms.

"Let me be clear, Florida law protects spaces designated for women. No local ordinance or woke corporate policy can override that. Life Time fitness tried to hide behind a misread county code, but the law is crystal clear. And so is my message. Men do not belong in women's restrooms or locker rooms, period," Attorney General James Uthmeier said.

Uthmeier said he is stepping in over a complaint that women’s spaces aren’t being protected. Life Time’s policy said it follows state and local laws when it comes to bathroom and locker room use, including access based on gender identity.

Life time also provided a statement to CBS12 in response to the attorney general's claims: “We are aware of the Attorney General’s recent remarks and, despite assertions being made, we are not relying on the Palm Beach County ordinance to avoid compliance but rather are adhering to our current understanding of the interplay between state and local law—as we do in every community where we operate. We are carefully reviewing the legal interpretation of the Attorney General, as the chief law enforcer in the State of Florida, so that we can remain in legal compliance while maintaining an environment in our Palm Beach Gardens club that allows all of our members to use our services safely and respectfully.”
