                    MIT Media Lab introduces ChainFORM, a modular robotic system capable of resizing and reshaping itself to form various devices and interactive interfaces. Inspired by the decreasing size and increasing efficiency of sensors, actuators, and batteries, ChainFORM combines multiple modules into a single dynamic system. Each module includes touch detection, angular sensing, motor actuation, and LED lights, enabling real-time input/output while maintaining adaptive functionality.
This innovation allows robots to be easily reconfigured, repaired, or extended, demonstrating the future of modular robotics and haptic interfaces. While currently tethered for power and control, researchers aim to expand its capabilities with self-assembly, higher-resolution displays, and more complex sensor and actuator modules.
