WildArk and our partners Aussie Ark and Global Wildlife Conservation have awarded Newcastle University one of our Endangered Species Recovery Grants to assess the impact of the 2019/202 bushfires on threatened Parma Wallabies. Through their research they will be able to determine the population, distribution and movement of this species both inside and outside fire affected areas.
With little to no scientific data on this species, scientists believe Parma wallabies to have largely disappeared from the north of their range. 70% of their distribution was affected by the latest bushfires. It is therefore critical to assess this species and the factors affecting their distribution and movements.
The Endangered Species Recovery Fund was made possible through funds raised from the Koala Comeback in partnership with David Yarrow and Global Wildlife Conservation.
