Asperges Me - Gregorian Chant

Recorded in St. Stephen Catholic Church in Cleveland, Ohio, the "Asperges Me" is an ancient Gregorian chant sung during the Traditional Latin Mass as the priest sprinkles the congregation in the "sprinkling rite." The text is drawn from Psalm 51, a penitential psalm. The translation is as follows:

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

In this recording, the tradition of a cantor "intoning" both the verse and "Gloria Patri" is employed, with the other chanter joining the cantor during second half of the verse and "Gloria Patri."

The "Asperges Me" is also to be used during the sprinkling rite in a Novus Ordo Mass, as the traditional chant for this liturgical action.
