One of the most frequent question I get is “What is a beginner friendly sewing machine” 🧵 🪡

And, although the best sewing machine is one you can start on, some of you want some more specific answers 😉

I started to sew on a “Brother J17S” and a “Brother JV1400” sewing machine, it just so happened to be the one that my parents picked out for me one Christmas 🎄

Get one that suits your needs, if you’re just starting out sewing, you only need a basic sewing machine. It’s very easy to get caught up with all the fancy embroidery and quilting ones, but you won’t need any of that when you’re just starting out. So. Stick to the basics. Most beginner friendly sewing machines will be advertised as “Beginner friendly”

🌸All you will need is a straight stitch and a zig zag. These two are the baseline for what your machine needs to do. Plus adjusting the stitch length.

💛Get one that suits your budget. There are such a wide range of sewing machines on the market, but as soon as you filter out ones that don’t fit into your budget the pool becomes a lot smaller. If you’re buying one new, I would recommend under $200 is a good baseline. I’ve always been an advocate of getting sewing machines second hand. So that’s an option too.
