Pedestrian Accidents: Side Collision on THUMS Adult Male

Описание: In a recent post [https://lnkd.in/g97Xiz3i], I shared about the finite element analysis of pedestrian collision from three different angles. Today, we see how the vehicle geometry influence the severity of pedestrian side collision.

Three classes of vehicles were investigated: Sedan (Toyota Yaris), Pickup Truck (Dodge Ram), Heavy-Duty Truck (Day Cab Tractor). The highest head acceleration is observed in the case of heavy duty truck due to the head direct impact to the vehicle radiator grill. The least severe damage on the head is in the case of a pickup truck as there is no direct impact between the head and vehicle. As for the collision with sedan, the head does directly come into contact with the hood, however this occurs after the bumper hits the torso and lower extremities of the pedestrian.
