How do BTCC CHAMPIONS manage the heat on their car?

With BMR Engineering designing and building the car from the ground up, they foresaw some heat management issues in which would sap performance from their hard work! They approached Funk Motorsport for the third year running to help aid the 2020 British Touring Car contender!

BMR Engineering utilised our off the shelf components to protect their chassis and reduce Air Intake temperatures, as well as looking at a custom downpipe and turbo blanket for their project. This combination ensures that the heat energy stays within the exhaust gases, allowing them to be accelerated away from the engine bay. The heat insulation creates an even LOWER engine bay temperature, allowing for an even more reliable working window for their fuel lines, oil lines, induction pipework, electronics, etc.

Chief Engineer - Antonio Carrozza talks us around the issue whilst also demonstrating how well they perform. In the video, you can see that the external face of the downpipe has been reduced so much, that Antonio can comfortably use a bare hand to touch the exhaust system (please note, this is for demonstration purposes only). To gain some perspective of how much difference a blanket like this can make, let's compare this to some unprotected components in the surrounding area. For reference, the ceramic-coated pipes in the surrounding area have a temperature around the 500 Degrees C mark, whereas the blanket will showcase a temperature of around 60 Degrees C. This is a significant reduction in temperature, to help provide a clear advantage over the rest of the field.
