This is an original Norse-inspired ritual song spoken in the voice of a völva calling to the land spirits for their blessing as the sun returns.
It is a chant of remembrance rather than command.
A request, not a demand.
A turning of the wheel from darkness back toward light.
The piece draws on Nordic animist ideas, skaldic cadence, and seasonal rites connected to winter’s end and the renewal of life. It is intended for spoken performance, ritual use, or quiet listening.
Themes:
Norse animism and land spirits
Völva tradition and ritual speech
The return of the sun / seasonal turning
Winter to spring transition
Spoken word, chant, and Nordic ritual
Eg står på landet
med staven i hand.
Eg høyrer jorda
pusta under meg.
Høyr meg, de som bur her.
Dei gamle i stein og rot.
Dei stille i vatn og mold.
Eg kjem ikkje for å ta.
Eg kjem for å minnast.
Sola har gått langt.
Ho har vore borte.
Mørkret har lege tungt
over åker og ånd.
No ber eg.
Ikkje høgt.
Ikkje lett.
Lat varmen venda att.
Lat lyset finna vegen.
Lat frø vakna
og blod minnast rørsle.
Høyr meg!
De som held grensene.
De som vakter stiane
mellom før og no.
Velsign stega våre
når hjulet snur.
Velsign hendene
som skal så og byggja.
Eg bind ikkje.
Eg byd ikkje.
Eg spør.
Lat sola stiga.
Lat dagen vinna rom.
Lat livet ta til att
i gras, i dyr, i folk.
Eg skal minnast dykk
med eld og vatn.
Med gåve og ord.
Så lenge sola går si ferd,
skal namnet dykkar
ikkje gløymast.
English Lyrics
I stand upon the land
with the staff in my hand.
I hear the earth
breathing beneath me.
Hear me, you who dwell here.
The old ones in stone and root.
The quiet ones in water and soil.
I come not to take.
I come to remember.
The sun has travelled far.
She has been away.
Darkness has lain heavy
over field and spirit.
Now I ask.
Not loudly.
Not lightly.
Let warmth return.
Let the light find its path.
Let seeds wake
and blood remember motion.
Hear me!
You who hold the boundaries.
You who guard the paths
between before and now.
Bless our steps
as the wheel turns.
Bless the hands
that will sow and build.
I do not bind.
I do not command.
I ask.
Let the sun rise.
Let the day claim ground.
Let life begin again
in grass, in beast, in people.
I will remember you
with fire and water.
With gift and with word.
So long as the sun walks her course,
your names
will not be forgotten.
