Oval Test: Yashasvi Jaiswal Surpasses Sachin Tendulkar’s Longstanding Record
India’s rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal has etched his name into the record books by surpassing a notable milestone once held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. The young opener achieved this during his commanding knock of 118 runs in the third innings of the fifth Test against England in Manchester.
Jaiswal, who has already scored centuries in diverse conditions including India, West Indies, and now England, broke Tendulkar’s record for the most 50-plus scores by an Indian against England before turning 24. With this latest century, Jaiswal now boasts nine 50+ scores against England — comprised of four hundreds and five fifties — overtaking Tendulkar’s tally of eight at the same age. Remarkably, Jaiswal also has two double centuries against England to his name.
This century at The Oval was his second of the current series, further cementing his dominance.
Beyond consistency, Jaiswal’s aggressive strokeplay has put him within touching distance of another elite record. He has now smashed 30 sixes against England in Test cricket, closing in on Viv Richards’s mark of 34 sixes. Only Rishabh Pant stands ahead with the most sixes (38) against England in Tests — a milestone Jaiswal could very well overtake in the near future.
