Описание: বাংলার কর্মকারদের তৈরি অস্ত্রের খ্যাতি একসসময় গোটা ভারতবর্ষে ছড়িয়ে পড়েছিল। বীরভূম, বর্ধমানের প্রত্যন্ত গ্রামের কামারশালগুলো ধাতুবিদ্যার সর্বোচ্চ শিখর ছুঁয়েছিল। সেই সোনালী অতীত আজকে বহুদূর। তবু আজও এই অস্ত্রনির্মাণের চর্চা ধরে রেখেছেন বীরভূমের খরুন গ্রামের তামাল কর্মকারের মত গুটিকয় মানুষ।

এদের হাতের জাদুতে, কামারশালে উত্তপ্ত চিমনির মধ্যে আজও জন্ম নেয় শানিত খড়গ বা খাঁড়া। এই সব খড়গ হাতে নিলে আজও গায়ে কাঁটা দেয়। তমালবাবুর নির্মিত খড়গের ব্যবহার করেই আজও পূর্ব ভারতের বিভিন্ন মন্দির ও শক্তিপীঠে বলিদানের প্রথা চালু রয়েছে। আজকে এই ছোট্ট ইন্টারভিউয়ের মধ্যে দিয়ে বাংলার প্রত্যন্ত গ্রামের এমনই এক কর্মকার ও তার কামারশালের গল্প তুলে ধরলাম।

The fame of weapons made by the craftsmen of Bengal once spread throughout India. The forges of the remote villages of Birbhum and Burdwan reached the highest peak of metallurgy. That golden past is far away today. Yet, even today, a few craftsmen/blacksmith like Tamal Karmakar of Kharun village in Birbhum have retained the practice of making weapons.

With the magic of their hands, sharpened swords or axes are still born in the hot chimneys of the forge. These swords still sting when you hold them in your hand. The custom of sacrificing in various temples and Shaktipeeths of Eastern India is still practiced today using the swords made by Tamal Babu.

Today, through this short interview, I will tell the story of one such forge worker and his forge in a remote village of Bengal.
