Ainokura is the most remote village in the Gokayama region of Toyama Prefecture, Japan. This village was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1995, along with Ogimachi, Shirakawago. It has more than twenty gassho-zukuri farmhouses, some of them were converted to restaurants and lodging houses.
A visit to this place especially in the winter season brings you that magical and fairy-tale like atmosphere.
I enjoy travelling all the way to remote areas in Japan to see such a beauty like this and to have an understanding of how people, back in the days, lived a simple and hassle free life.
