AI in Education Panel
Recorded at the Plug and Play Tech Center during the Ai Summit by TechEquity Ai - Silicon Valley on November 7-8th, 2025, This session focused on examining how AI was transforming education across community colleges, public schools, private institutions, and the broader workforce ecosystem, highlighting the pathway from academia to enterprise and startups. The panel explored how the democratization of AI expanded access to tools and opportunities, while also addressing the opportunities and challenges AI presented for students, educators, and institutions, as well as its implications for workforce development and strategic partnerships.
About the speakers:
Michael Kaufman is Dean of the College of Science at San José State University, where he oversees programs that train students to solve some of the worlds biggest challenges, from wildfire and climate change to equitable access and use of AI. Under his leadership, the college has developed modern, relevant programs including Data Science, Computational Linguistics, and Computational Biology, resulting in more than 30% growth in students majoring in science fields. He is an astrophysicist who has worked with the James Webb Space Telescope, Hubble Space Telescope, Herschel Space Observatory, and others to advance research on the formation of stars.
Dr. Melissa Valentine is an associate professor of management science and engineering at Stanford University and Senior Fellow at Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI. Valentine’s research examines how AI and algorithmic systems transform collaboration, organizational design, and workforce structures.
Don Daves-Rougeaux serves as Senior Advisor to the California Community College Chancellor on Workforce Development, Strategic Partnerships and Generative AI. He sits on the systemwide AI Council, focusing on AI’s industry impact and integrating immersive technology through storytelling. Previously, as Bay Area Community College Consortium’s Regional K14 Technical Assistance Provider, he led equity-driven workforce initiatives across 28 community colleges with $28MM in CTE pathway funding. With 30+ years in education management, his AI work centers on aligning workforce development with Vision 2030 while leveraging regional consortia expertise to drive strategic AI integration across California’s community college system.
Camille Crittenden, Ph.D., is the executive director of CITRIS and the Banatao Institute and co-founder of the CITRIS Policy Lab and EDGE (Expanding Diversity and Gender Equity) in Tech at UC. She served as chair of the California Blockchain Working Group in 2019–20 and co-chaired the Student Experience subcommittee of the University of California’s Presidential Working Group on Artificial Intelligence. She continues to serve on the UC AI Council. She has written and spoken widely on AI governance and applications in higher education and technology applications for civic engagement, digital equity, and government transparency and accountability.
