First Ever Cop Watch, Awarded $75,000 For Rights Violations

Описание: On January 19, 2019, Matthew Rankin was Cop watching in Pevely, Missouri, from over 200 feet away. He is noticed and then confronted by Officer Wayne Casey.

Officer Casey then proceeds to violate his rights by illegally seizing his phone and turning off jia livestream staring that it's illegal to record pooice even though there are several surpreme court cases that have affirmed that it's our constitutionally protected 1st amendment right to do so.

Matt is polite and cordial to Officer Casey and lets him dig his hole deeper and deeper by not reacting to his escalation tactics in a calm demeanor to diffuse the situation. After it's all said and done, Matthew leaves the scene.

Matthew didn't take his rights getting violated lying down. Several months later, he hired attorney Solomon Radner. Matt sued Officer Casey as well as the department on over 9 counts of violating his civil rights under 42 U.S.C. 1983.

Officer Casey was fired before the lawsuit could be filed for a separate incident where he covered for a fellow officer abusing a prisoner at an intake facility
