🥧 Full Homemade Apple Pie Recipe (Dutch Style)
Ingredients
For the Dough:
400g flour
1 tsp baking powder
Zest of 1 lemon (avoid the bitter white part)
½ tsp salt
200g sugar
2 eggs (room temperature)
200g butter (room temperature)
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Apple Filling:
6–8 Jonagold apples
2–3 tbsp cinnamon
2–3 tbsp brown or white sugar (to taste)
2 tbsp custard powder
1 egg
100g raisins soaked overnight in whiskey (or preferred alcohol)
🥣 Instructions
1. Prep the Raisins (Day Before)
Soak raisins in whiskey (or any alcohol you like) overnight for maximum flavor.
2. Make the Dough
Combine flour, baking powder, lemon zest, salt, sugar, vanilla extract, eggs, and butter.
Mix using a dough hook until combined.
Chill the dough for 30 minutes.
3. Prepare the Apples
Peel and cut apples.
Lightly cook them in a wok to soften.
4. Prepare the Form
Line the bottom with baking paper.
Grease the sides with butter.
5. Roll the Dough
Dust counter with flour.
Roll dough to ~0.5 cm thick.
Save a large chunk for the top.
6. Make the Filling
Mix cooled apples with cinnamon, sugar, custard powder, and an egg.
Strain raisins and add them in (drink the leftover whiskey if you dare—it’s sweet!).
Mix well until everything sticks together.
7. Build the Pie
Press dough into the form.
Add apple filling.
Add top crust.
8. Bake
Bake at 180°C for 80 minutes.
After 60 minutes, cover top with foil to prevent burning.
9. Bonus Tip
Leftover dough? Freeze it or slice it thin to make quick cookies with the kids on a rainy day!
