Punjab Government Intensifies Ground-Level Campaign to Eradicate Drugs: Sonia Mann
"Collective efforts are helping to defeat the menace of drugs," she says
Batala, June 2: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government's "War Against Drugs" campaign is yielding meaningful results. People from villages and cities are stepping forward to contribute to the success of this mission. This was stated by Sonia Mann, In-Charge of the "Drug-Free Punjab Yatra" for the Majha Zone.
The campaign event held at village Qila Tek Singh was also attended by Naib Tehsildar Nitin Sahota, Amrit Kalsi, Chairman Manik Mehta (District Coordinator, Gurdaspur), and B.D.P.O. Baljeet Singh.
Addressing the village residents during the campaign, Sonia Mann explained that the objective of the "Drug-Free Punjab Yatra" is to eliminate drug addiction through collective support from all sections of society. Making every village and every street drug-free is a top priority of the Punjab Government, she added.
She emphasized that the government has launched a grassroots campaign to eradicate drugs and is working with community support to uproot this social evil. While taking strict action against drug traffickers, the government is also helping addicted youth to recover and stand on their own feet so they can lead a better life.
Sonia Mann made a heartfelt appeal to the youth to stay away from drugs and play an active role in freeing society from this menace. She also led a pledge with the attendees, urging them to say no to drugs, raise awareness, and help those struggling with addiction to find recovery.
On the occasion, Chairman Manik Mehta highlighted that drugs had become a serious threat to Punjab’s youth, but the government’s exemplary actions against drug traffickers have started to dismantle the supply chain. These actions aim to ensure that no one dares to get involved in drug trafficking again and help restore a healthy Punjab.
He mentioned that Working President of Punjab and MLA Sherry Kalsi has been tirelessly mobilizing people at the village and ward levels to fight against drugs as part of the Drug-Free Punjab Yatra.
He further urged villagers, especially the youth, to stay alert, adding that drug addiction is a deadly trap. Many young people fall into this due to misinformation or momentary pleasure. He said local Defence Committees have now been tasked with guiding youth properly and engaging them in sports and other healthy activities to keep them away from drugs.
Among those present on the occasion were Principal Jatinder Mahajan, Master Tilak Raj, Sarpanch Jagtar Singh, Sarpanch Balwinder Singh, Manjeet Singh Bumrah (Coordinator Batala), Amit Sodhi, Veenu Kahlon, Lambardar Amrik Singh, Nirmal Singh Mattu, Vasudev Sharma, Bhupinder Singh, Jagjit Singh, Harsh Mahajan, Ajay Kumar, and a large number of local residents including youth, elderly, and women.
