Описание: This silent 16mm footage was shot by Lowell Thomas, Jr., when (then) US Senator John F. Kennedy visited the Alaska State Fair in 1960, while campaigning for the Presidency. Several Alaskan political notables of the era also appear in the footage, including: Ralph Rivers (seated to JFK's right; Rivers served as Second Vice President at the Alaskan Constitutional Convention; Territorial Attorney General; Territorial Legislator; Tennessee-plan representative to the US House; and Alaska's first representative in the US House); Bill Egan (seated to JFK's left; Egan served as the first Governor of the State of Alaska [1959-66], and several years later was elected to an additional term [1970-74]); and Ernest Gruening (appearing in a close-up toward the end of the footage; Gruening was appointed Governor of the Territory of Alaska in 1939, and was one of Alaska's first two US Senators, serving from 1959-69). The object JFK picks up following his speech is a large cabbage--presumably one of the prize winners at the State Fair, that year.
