The Chosen Few are a Reggae/Soul vocal group formed by former Federals’ members Franklin Spence and David (Scotty) Scott, with Noel ‘Bunny’ Brown and Richard McDonald. Scott left the group for a solo career as a toaster/DJ, to be replaced by Busty Brown. McDonald left shortly afterwards, to be replaced by Errol Brown.
They often recorded Reggae versions of Soul songs, and mainly recorded for producer Derrick Harriott, although they also recorded for Coxsone Dodd, Lloyd Charmers and (Prince) Tony Robinson. They had big Reggae hits with ‘People Make The World Go Round’, You’re A Big Girl Now’, ‘Everybody Plays The Fool’, ‘Shaft’, ‘Children Of The Night’ and ‘It’s Too Late’.
In 1975, Chosen Few signed to Polydor Records, and were managed by Tony Gordon. They had popular singles with 'You Mean Everything To Me' and 'I Can Make Your Dreams Come True'.
In 1976 they recorded their album ‘Night and Day’ (aka ‘The Chosen Few in Miami’) in Miami, with Reggae tracks on one side and Soul on the other. The album featured performances from members of KC and the Sunshine Band, and was produced by Noel Williams (aka King Sporty).
In 1978, they moved to Hansa Records, to be produced by Pete Bellotte and Giorgio Moroder. The group’s disco version of 'Stand By Me', was a big hit throughout Europe.
The group continued into the 1980s, with Spence and Bunny Brown with Michael Deslandes.
