This episode of The Sound of Cinema features music inspired by Bernard Herrmann, the composer whose haunting scores helped define Alfred Hitchcock’s most iconic films.
The Trouble with Harry (1955)
The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956)
The Wrong Man (1956)
Vertigo (1958)
North by Northwest (1959)
Psycho (1960)
The Birds (1963 – electronic sound design, not traditional score)
Marnie (1964)
From the swirling strings of Vertigo to the stabbing violins of Psycho, Herrmann’s music didn’t just underscore Hitchcock’s films — it shaped their emotional DNA.
