This week, Dr. Meredith Riedel, a scholar of the history of Christianity, presents "Why Do Christians Believe the Devil is a Snake? or, The Confused History of the Accuser".
The Bible never claims that the serpent in the Garden of Eden is Satan. How then did the Christian church develop this concept and when? How much power does "the devil" really have? Join us for a lively stroll through the biblical evidence for the the spiritual forces of evil, the creative responses of the Church to the idea of a chief demon, and the development of human thought that discounts or admires Satan in the post-Enlightenment era up through today. A key takeaway from this class will be the encouragement that evil has temporary and limited power in the face of God's glory and grace.
With a variety of guest speakers, Adult Forum offers presentations and discussions on a wide range of topics. The thought-provoking topics include Biblical studies, current social issues, and the work of mission agencies. All presentations are open to the public.
