Here I used a jack hammer to drive the piles through the Surefoot footing base plates. The engineer's specification was to drive them 1.2m deep and with a fair bit of persistence I managed it. Although not shown here, once the piles stopped moving, I used a sledge hammer to check the state of the piles as specified by the manufacturer. Some of piles actually caused the rock to break just enough to drive further in.
Having a particularly heavy in shale ground made it a bit hard to install these footings and eventually I had to go with
buried concrete for some of the footings.
