Self Gaslighting (or Shame, as many of us know it) is pervasive in our lives. We tell ourselves to "get over" something or that our problems "are not that bad". But when we use those phrases on ourselves, we undermine one of our most basic processes...self understanding.
We need to be kinder to ourselves. We also need to stop putting up with people who are unkind to us. And we can do neither of those things when we are beating ourselves up for having feelings. You are allowed to have whatever feeling you have, and honoring that in yourself will make you healthier!
This week's Ask a Therapist video will address what Self Gaslighting is, 5 of the most common phrases, and how they are harmful to our own development. Don't forget to comment below if you have ever encountered one of these, and how you moved past it.
