This is the third video in a series that is Phase 2 of my passion project of bringing to life the works of William H. Tucker, PhD.

In this video, we delve into the troubling connections between the International Association for the Advancement of Ethnology (IAAEE) and the rise of scientific racism in post-World War II America. Despite lacking genuine intellectual influence, the IAAEE quickly became a key authority for far-right ideologies, providing a veneer of scientific legitimacy for racists and Nazis who sought to promote the thesis of black intellectual inferiority.

As the U.S. distanced itself from Nazi genetic theories, the IAAEE's publications attempted to resurrect the very assumptions that fueled the Jim Crow laws. With the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision in 1956 paving the way for equal rights under the 14th Amendment, social scientists began to challenge these outdated notions with evidence-based arguments for equality. However, civil rights and equality posed a direct threat to the social Darwinist and eugenic theories that had long supported racial segregation.

I was privileged to have attended Dr. Tucker's class 'Intelligence' in Fall 1994 when 'The Bell Curve' was published, and we had maintained correspondence.. This is a tribute to a mentor. More content is forthcoming.

Now, the IAAEE didn't seem to exert any genuine intellectual influence. Yet, it quickly became the far right's major intellectual authority, and its publications provided scientific support for the preachments of many racists and Nazis. Suddenly, there was a reason for these bigots to be hopeful. The reemergence of the thesis of black intellectual inferiority and its political implications was now being pursued on the part of very prominent researchers. researchers providing science under an untainted agenda. Let's review. The assumptions of race, intelligence, and education that kind of made the fabric of the Jim Crow laws was now being challenged in a postworld war II world, especially as America was distancing itself from the genetic theories of Nazi Germany. Starting with Brown versus education in 1956, equal rights under the 14th amendment was now being fought by social scientists with evidence-based arguments for equality. Unfortunately, civil rights and equality are kryptonite to social Darwinists and eugenic theories of race, the very theories that held the Jim Crow laws together. Further, it was falsely assumed that the decisions in these cases were based on the evidence that the social scientists were providing instead of the 14th amendment in the constitution equal rights. It's an it's actually a part of the constitution. It's an amendment. All right. So, this is how amendments work. And it was under these false pretenses of scientific evidence winning the day that racist segregationists decided if it's evidence that you want, we're going to provide it with a vengeance. Enter why Cleft Draper and his pioneer fund to overturn Brown. Draper was on a quest for wellestablished and reputable organizations to join his crusade against equal rights, but that proved unsuccessful. So he just decided to build one of his own and then he just funded that lavishly. One of these such organizations that Draper built because he couldn't find wellestablished reputable organizations was the IAAEE whose sole purpose was to publish and promote racist literature for the purposes of preventing integration. And the journal that received the most promotional love from the IAE was the Mankind Quarterly. So now you know how we got from Brown versus Education to the Mankind Quarterly, which is pretty much through the Pioneer Fund.
