Welcome to Eastland Mall! Built and completed in 1968 and originally owned by the Richard E. Jacobs group, the original layout featured 3 anchors (Lazarus, Sears, and Penney's (60s JCPenney), a movie theater, a food court, and a plethora of stores. The mall itself is only 1 floor, but the anchors are 2 or 3 floors tall. The Mall underwent expansion in 2004, adding a 4th anchor, Kaufmann's, and several outlet stores.
The Mall began it's decline in 2006 when Macys (which bough Lazarus a couple years prior, moved to the Kaufmann's space (which Macys also bought) leaving the Lazarus space never properly re-opening. This spurred a general decline of retail around the Mall itself. In 2015, JCPenney left it's anchor followed by Macys and Sears in 2017, leaving the mall anchorless.
It continued to operate for 5 more years until 2022 when an aging structure coupled by poor maintenance lead it be declared a public nuisance and closed by the end of the years due to a water main break.
As of the time of upload, the mall has attracted Vandals and Scrappers, the mall now going by the way of Westland mall due to possible asbestos and lawsuits from current owners, Eastland Holding LLC.
