Chile's Alameda-Melipilla train project is getting closer to reality! Four companies are vying for a crucial USD 220 million contract to build the underground section. This vital link connects Santiago's main station to a key transit hub, adding 3.2 kilometers of new tunnels and a brand new underground station. The companies, from Chile, Spain, and China, are now undergoing a technical evaluation. The entire project, worth over USD 1.9 billion, includes 11 stations and a 61km route. The project will have three tracks to Malloco and two to Melipilla, accommodating both passenger and freight trains. Contracts for other sections are already awarded, and construction on workshops is underway. Expect this crucial piece to be finalized in October, with construction starting next year! This massive undertaking promises to revolutionize transportation in the Santiago Metropolitan Region.
