Paper Handling Tips (English)

You can avoid damage to the product if you handle the paper carefully. Damage that would subsequently result in faults on the printing press. We’d like to show you five tips to make working with paper easier and to prevent.

Never accept the goods without checking them properly. This step may help you to identify and separate out any defective or damaged sheets before use. First of all, take a close look at all the pallets. If the goods are in good condition, there is nothing to stop further processing.

The next crucial process is to open a ream. Do not use any sharp objects to open the packaging. You could accidentally damage the paper by doing this. Always use a special safety cutter instead. Feel free to ask us about a cutter.

Cut open the packaging with the appropriate care. If you take too many sheets at once, they will weigh too much. If the paper is then pulled over the sharp edges of the guillotine cutter, the result may be so-called roll-ups. So, take a smaller stack. You can easily stack the sheets on top of each other. Sometimes, due to the guillotine’s design, the bottom sheet is damaged by the cutting edge. So always remove the bottom sheet.

When pulling the sheets over each other, the surface of the paper may be damaged due to the stack’s heavy weight. Ideally, work in pairs when lifting large, heavy sheets. This also allows several sheets to be stacked easily on top of each other.

Wedges are often used as a tool when working with the printing press. Do not jam the wedges abruptly into the stack of paper. Otherwise you might damage several sheets. Carefully lift the stack of paper and gently place the wedge in the desired position.

With these five tips you’ll be firmly in control. This is the way to ensure perfect operation and trouble-free printing. It will enable you to supply your customers with a faultless product every time.
