You can still do the Ditto glitch (which is an extension of the Mew glitch) even with one long-range trainer left and nothing else. You just have to go to a PC (the A button still works for PC) and change box to save and reset. This will revive the ability to open the start menu. You will still need to have an NPC finish a walking animation for the glitch to work, which uses up one trainer. Since there's no trainer left to battle, you can either battle the Elite Four, walk with the Museum guy at Pewter City, or the easiest of all, simply move any boulder (which for some reason counts as an NPC walking). Then encounter a Ditto as always.
Don't forget to return to the same area of the long-range trainer you used. Here, I used the trainer at a route close to Vermillion and Saffron City.
