High Tide Trapped Us at Pismo Beach | RV Camping Gone Wrong

We thought we had it figured out.

Pulling onto Pismo Beach looked easy at first. We crossed the shallow ocean creek, found a spot among hundreds of RVs, and settled in for what we thought would be a simple beach camping experience.

Then the storm rolled in. 🌊🌬️

High tide hit overnight, the water came up under the truck and camper, and most of the beach cleared out. We rode it out and later that day moved the trailer about 40 feet higher up the sand.

The next morning, when it was time to leave, we ran into another problem.

The creek we crossed on the way in was now too deep at high tide, and we had to wait nearly two hours before we could safely get through.

After finally making it off the beach, we headed straight to the car wash to clean the salt and sand from the truck and trailer. 🚿

Beach camping is unforgettable — but timing the tides matters more than we realized.
