Liquid clay is first poured into molds, the clay is then dried and refined. The relief motifs in the clay are carved by hand. The clay is then allowed to dry for a week and then fired for 5 hours at 800˚C.
A master painter and artist, Ramphan shades the motifs with brown underglaze. The piece is bathed in celadon glaze and then left to dry again.
The piece is then fired for another 12 hours at 1250˚C. This gives the ceramic its distinctive glassy green color...and the characteristic crackled surface as it cools.
