Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced key tax and customs reforms in the Union Budget, impacting investors, patients, exporters, and critical industries. The government proposed increasing Securities Transaction Tax (STT) on futures and options while reducing tariffs on personal imports. Major relief measures include customs duty exemptions on cancer medicines, rare disease treatments, and aircraft manufacturing components. The Budget also supports defence, nuclear power, and critical mineral processing sectors. Income tax reforms include exemption of Motor Accident Claims Tribunal interest, reduced TCS for education and healthcare, and simplified compliance for small taxpayers. The new Income Tax Act 2025 will take effect from April 1, 2026.
