For the second time in less than six months, the workers tasked with keeping the flights of millions of passengers a day safe are being required to work without a paycheck. While so far the D.C. region seems to have been largely spared, there have been reports of extremely long wait times at security checkpoints at some U.S. Airports.
Although a partial government shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security began Feb. 14 because of concerns from Democratic lawmakers over the Trump administration’s use of ICE agents, the impact extends to other parts of the DHS, including the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
TSA workers received only a partial paycheck a week and a half ago, and their next paycheck will be zero dollars if the shutdown is not resolved.
