Mathoor (originally, Martroor or Veerapandiapuram) is one of Nine Temples of Nagarathaar / Nattukottai Chettiar community in Chettinad Area of Tamil Nadu State in South India. This temple has 7 sub-temples, called "Pirivu": Uraiyur, Arumbakoor, Manaloor, Mannoor, Kannoor, Karupoor and Kulathoor.
Iynoortreeswarar is the name of Lord Shiva here, with Parvati being called as Periyanayaki Amman. Lion and YaaLi (Dragon) have special importance here in pillars and statues. A stone ball inside YaaLi in Dakshinamoorthy sannidhi, Lions pedestal of Nandhi, sky light around the sannidhis in prahaaram, unique presence of Ananda Muneeswarar inside the temple, under sthala viruksham (Magizha Maram or Spanish Cherry, Mimusops elengi in Sapotaceae) are wonders at this temple. Earliest reference for renovation / consecration by Nagarathar community here is seen from a stone tablet dated 2nd Feb 1949. There is a special garden with specific trees for 27 Nakshathiraas. Nagara Vidudhi of Chettiars is situated opposite to the temple.
The temple is situated 5 KM from Karaikudi, 46 KM from Pudukkottai and 94-99 KM from Madurai / Trichy. This ensemble has photos and videos taken in the end of Oct 2021, while I visited the temple after a gap of two decades and other than narration in my voice-over, the Thaevaaram, Nadhaswaram are from actual background from Temple vidwaans, performing during "Iyppasi Annaabishekam" function, added with authentic temple bell sound of Chidambaram Nataraja Temple.
