SMU Mosasaur Excavation! 🦖

We had the pleasure to help excavate some associated Mosasaur bones for SMU Paleontology Department yesterday! We were asked by Kim Pervis from Dallas Paleontological Society to lend a hand and it was one of the most memorable experiences of our lives! WE HAD A BLAST but it was also an extreme challenge due to the location we were having to get to. It was about a 45 min hike through water with snakes, walking through poison Ivy (Which my husband ended up breaking out in today) Repelling down a 30 foot incline using a rope, excavating and plaster jacketing the fossils and then carrying them out and up that same 30 foot hill! Upon returning to our cars, we found that someone had slit the back tires on all three of the crews cars! So in the 106 heat, we all first tried to use air compressors, before realizing that they were actually slit with a knife. Luckily a member of our team had a security camera on his car, and caught the entire thing on video. So after filing a Police Report they were able to locate and identify the person who slashed all of our tires. It was quite a day, we feel every bit of it in our bodies today!
